Major Book Sales

We conduct major book sales four times a year.

The sales in January, May and August are Super Sales of 30,000+ books, CDs, DVDs, tapes, puzzles and games.  In November we have a special Holiday Sale that emphasizes holiday-themed and gift-quality books.  All sales are in the Hillview Community Center at 97 Hillview Avenue in Los Altos (see map).

Super sales

Our super sales are known for the quality, condition, and variety of books offered at great savings. They are "don't miss" events, not only for the community. but also for many professional book buyers. The three sales rooms offer a huge range of fiction, non-fiction, children's books, and audio and video materials, plus a selection of puzzles and games. The Specials Book Room offers first, signed and rare editions as well as large and unusual art books. This room also has an extensive collection of sheet music and music books.

Prices are "as marked", starting at 50 cents. These are CASH ONLY sales - sorry no checks or credit cards.

The super sales run from Friday night to Sunday afternoon as follows: Friday Night--6:30 to 9:00 p.m.--for Friends members only. Buyers may purchase 15 books at a time and return as many times as they like. Because of the large number of people who come to these sales the Friends request that NO strollers, carts, boxes or large bags are brought inside so that buyers are free to move more easily while selecting their books. Saturday--10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.--open to the public. No limit to the number of books you may purchase at a time. Please carry your choices with you as stacking of books in the sale area is not permitted. You may bring labeled boxes or bags for storing your purchased books outside the rooms until you have finished shopping. Sunday--12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.--bag sale. BUY A $5 BAG - THE BOOKS ARE FREE - Our $5 grocery bag is your entry ticket to great shopping - fill each bag as full as possible - buy as many bags as you wish. We have two rooms to visit till your bags are full. Sorry, you can't bring your own bags.

Holiday sale

The special Holiday sale emphasizes holiday-themed and gift-quality books. It offers hundreds of unique like-new books perfect for gift giving or personal collecting. These include beautiful art books, history and biography volumes, special editions, gorgeous cooking and gardening books, many children's items, and much much more. Shop for a year of birthdays and special events.

This one-day sale is held on a Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Holiday sales are also CASH ONLY.
